Supervision

Supervision

I do not keep a published list of available topics. What I can supervise well is best read from the themes on the front page and from the recent theses below — if something there overlaps with an idea of yours, write to me.

What I supervise

45 bachelor's and master's projects since 2022. Rather than a list of past titles, these are the topics that work has actually clustered around — and the kind of project I can supervise well.

Technical debt, managed

  • Detecting technical debt with machine learning, including graph-based models
  • Bots and tooling that surface debt where developers already work - issue trackers, pull requests
  • What practitioners actually need from debt-management tools
  • How design degradation relates to the debt a team carries

Architecture, code, and the AI in between

  • Testing and evaluating LLM-based systems, including retrieval-augmented applications
  • Language models as assistants for engineering and for research work itself
  • Tooling for design quality and pattern detection
  • Infrastructure for empirical software engineering: repository mining and replication packages

Infrastructure as software

  • Cost awareness in infrastructure-as-code: finding, predicting and repairing expensive patterns
  • Energy and environmental footprint of running systems, from model training to workflows
  • Cloud deployment and operations in industrial settings

20 master's and 33 bachelor projects in total, including theses, internships and Honours College work. Bachelor projects are the more varied of the two — often a company placement or a student's own idea.Email me if you are looking for a supervisor.
